Why The Footjoy Pro SL Golf Shoes?

Footjoy have been at the forefront of shoe design and manufacturing in the golf industry since 1927. This is due to the both the quality of the materials and the finest craftsmanship. Footjoy have always been the go to for most golfers when it comes to golf shoes and the Footjoy Pro SL Golf Shoes really prove why they are at the top of their field.

With the likes of Justin Thomas and Adam Scott wearing these golf shoes its hard to argue that they are some of the best in the market at the moment.

Comfort

When you think of Footjoy golf shoes you think of smart looking hard leather, stiff golf shoes. Where your feet are crammed in with no room to move. This used to be the case but golf shoes have moved on from this and are now made from materials that allow movement with flexible materials. These golf shoes have been designed with this in mind.

By utilising different materials Footjoy have managed to create a hard wearing durable golf shoe that feels like a trainer. They have used a ChromoSkin Leather System by Pittards which is essentially a full grain leather which is light, durable and completely waterproof. This creates an environment for the foot which is an incredible fit and has great breathability. It looks like a golf shoe but feels like a pair of trainers.

To add to the trainer like feel the design team have included a Fine-Tuned Foam which is 10% lighter than most other foams used in common golf shoes. It helps to create a very cushioned feel to soles of your feet. As the shoes are spikeless you don't get the annoyance like other golf shoes where you can feel the spikes poking through the bottom of the golf shoe. This added with the Fine-Tuned Foam makes for an unbeatable cushioned underfoot.

The Footjoy Pro SL Golf Shoes are incredibly comfortable, which you would not expect in a pair of Golf Shoes of this calibre. They include a thicker footbed which helps to add the feel of depth of the shoe enhancing the form around your feet. Footjoy have really pushed the boundries for comfort on this model.

One of the troubles with these golf shoes is for anyone who has wide feet, because of the rounded toe end they can really cram your toes at the front. So if you are of wider feet then the basic pair will not be for you, buying a wide fit or even x-wide fit would be the best option for you.

Performance

The Footjoy Pro SL Golf Shoes really start to shine when it comes to performance. The new Infinity outsole helps to aid stability and grip on the golf course. Due to the outsole this means that these pair of golf shoes are able to handle most weather and course conditions. These golf shoes will easily last a year or two for the average golfer playing once or twice a week. As with any golf shoe though they need to be looked after to keep up there high standards. Another feature that these Footjoy golf shoes have is the spikeless traction system on the sole of the golf shoe. The infinity outsole has 189 points of traction with the small traction lugs located on the base of the golf shoe. Each one of these traction lugs help to aid grip on the golf course, because as well all know slipping in the middle of your swing or anytime in the round is horrible and we at The Golf Grange would not wish that on any golfer. These traction lugs will helk to stop this from happening.

Another great feature of this golf shoe is the Power Harness. This is placed on the upper of the golf shoe to help aid stability and provide both lateral and medial control, essentially meaning in all planes of movement from side to side or front to back you will have extra stability and control over your feet. We feel like this does add an element of stability in the Footjoy Pro Sl Golf Shoes and your ankles will thank you for it.

Style

We are all about tradition here at The Golf Grange and sometimes you just can't beat the old ways, but the design team at Footjoy have gone away from traditional with these golf shoes and have gone for a more modern approach. The rounded toe front end is more like a traditional golf shoe where as the backend is completely different. Resembling more of a trainer.

The sleek front end resembles an old style golf shoe and we like the fact that even though the majority of the design, the materials and the performance aspects of these golf shoes have moved on, Footjoy have still managed to sneak in some tradition. You just can't stop them.

The rest of the Footjoy Pro SL Golf Shoes looks very up to date. With the added power harness running across the shoe it gives it a more performance edged look to match the technology in the golf shoe. With the added range of colours and styles available as well you can ensure that you can get any look out of the golf shoes you like.

Summary

So to summarise we believe the Footjoy Pro SL Golf Shoes are a great pair of spikeless golf shoes. We think they are just about the right price for the different aspects you get with the shoe. As it is a performance based shoe Footjoy have done very well in living up to the high standards they have.

The spikeless traction system offers a great amount of grip if thats what you are worrying about, not as much as a standard spiked golf shoe as that is extremely hard to recreate in a spikeless golf shoe. If you play regularly on a hilly course that is subject to bad weather then these may not be right for you, but if you are a fair weather golfer that likes a flat dry course then these are perfect.

Just be careful if you have wide feet as we spoke about above you may need to look at the wide or x-wide range of these golf shoes.

We believe that these golf shoes can provide any golfer of any ability an edge when out on the course, but if you do not play regularly or are not looking to upgrade your current pair of golf shoes we believe they are quite highly priced. We are not saying they will not be good for you as they will help with any golfer of any ability but if you are not that serious about golf then there are plenty of other ranges of golf shoes that could be the right golf shoe for you.
